Winding tape insulation
With this type of insulation, contour-dependent irregularities can be compensated for and unintended displacement of the material can be avoided.
The two main components of this insulation are the inner insulating layer and an outer protective wrapping. The inner layer consists of a high-temperature-resistant, aluminum-coated insulating material. In conjunction with a heat-reflecting foil, this results in an expandable material combination. The outer layer consists of a self-vulcanizing and resistant high-temperature elastomer, which is used to protect the insulating layers from external influences (water, fuel, oil). It is flame-retardant in accordance with UL 94 V-0.
The winding tape insulations are suitable as thermal insulation for exhaust systems and comparable applications up to +600°C.
Application example:
At an exhaust gas temperature of a silencer of ~450°C and a 3-layer wrapping tape insulation with 15mm insulation thickness, the surface temperature at the tape is ~125°C with sufficient ventilation.
